good thing they only capture metadata

found on thechive

i guess it's a good thing the NSA only collects phone call metadata (as far as we know). i don't believe such contents would be included in that, and this point would be an awfully good argument for why they should never expand their collection practices to include the call contents.

maybe he means nien nien nien nien nien nien

randomness CAN be difficult like that, but an unbiased distribution is also important if you want to prevent predictability (which you generally do in security) and this is anything but unbiased.

transparency?

from here (source image)

i suspect most people expected transparency for those in positions of authority would work the other way round, to protect against abuse of power rather than to reveal the 'terrorists'.

if you're like me you were probably waiting for him to do something to open the chain or the lock and when that didn't happen but the gate opened anyway you were like "what magic is this?". it's amazing how simply choosing the wrong lock can render your security ineffective.

your job, if you choose to accept it, is to shut up

shared on G+ by cheryl f
it's a shame but it's not entirely unrealistic that money could be what keeps people's mouths shut about things they know are wrong. money is the motivation behind a great many wrongs. they don't call it filthy lucre for nothing.

big brother isn't just watching, he's listening too

some parts of government are good talkers, but the NSA are good listeners
