Bobby Tables he ain't

from here

It was a clever trick, and I might have tried it myself if I'd thought of it, but thankfully having an example of what can go wrong when you register NULL as your vanity plate has disabused me of any notions that it might end well.

But I thought Macs were safe

found on QuickMeme

The myth that Macs don't get malware has been particularly pernicious, in part because Apple has actively promoted the idea for a long time. You don't want to find this out the hard way but they do actually get malware, there's just less of it going around.

The worst place to be in a security emergency

found on Meme Generator

I've only been to RSA once, but from what I recall the expo floor had lots of sales personnel trying to sell product but no one offering to help attendees remediate security problems going on back home - and with the size of RSA you have to know at least some of the attendees have security problems while they attend the conference.

Why not prove their value with real-time assistance during the show? Wouldn't that help sell their products/services?

Maybe you should just get an iPad instead

found on Meme Center

They used to advise people to get Apple computers in order to get a computer without having to worry about viruses. Some people still do give and/or follow that advice, but the Mac wasn't virus proof and as time has gone on it has become a bigger and bigger target. I think it's only a matter of time before the dominant advice shifts to "Get an iPad" because it's even more virus-resistant and it can do pretty much anything the average person would use a computer for these days.

Of course, with a large enough market share, the iPad will eventually succumb to the perils of malware as well. It may look different than the malware problem we're familiar with now, but one way or another if the money is there then the attackers will try to find ways to take it.

Bad Luck Marcus

found on Reddit

I didn't make this (believe it or not I'm quite a bit better at digital image manipulation than this) but when I stumbled across it while searching for memes I knew I just had to share it. Credit goes (I think) to Reddit user 98cwitr.

If you were going to choose a meme to modify in order to represent the absurd tribulations of Marcus Hutchins, then Bad Luck Brian seems like a perfect fit.

Just a lonely little botnet

found on Quickmeme

This is one of the reasons I use a different disposable email address everywhere I go. Not because I have a relationship to protect, or because I post lonely heart ads online, but rather because I know that emails occasionally get harvested by spammers and I want to be able to turn off the spam without losing my real email address.

As if millions of crypto nerds cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced

from here

According to the news about GnuPG, you're probably going to want to update the library before you use your keys again, lest you want the software to leak enough information for the keys to be recovered by a malicious 3rd party.

So much for secure by default

from here

Some people think Linux will protect you against ransomware. Those people are wrong.

At Least You Don't Have To Worry About Anyone Finding It

from here

I've been unlucky enough to lose data this way. Not this kind of data, mind you. In truth, I'm not sure people actually bother to collect porn anymore when there's a firehose of it online.

We Can't All Have The Luck Of The Irish

found on google image search

Sometimes our luck is more like Bad Luck Brian's, so be careful with your drinks tonight (and any night, really).
