Who needs a warrant when you've got a wallet?

from here and here

It's not really a surprise that the FBI tracks people, but it is still worth noting when they admit to having done it and how. I guess I was expecting them to do something more technically sophisticated than simply buying location data from data brokers.

Assuming Twitter still has anyone left to send them

from here and here

Well, it was only a matter of time before Twitter suffered a large data breach if Peiter Zatko is to be believed. I don't know how they're going to tell the affected users now that they have no communications team. I guess Elon is going to have to do it himself.

Whatever happened to the useful ones?

from here and here

One the plus side, I do get fewer useless alerts than I used to, but the useless ones still outnumber the useful ones by a wide margin. I don't even remember the last time I got a useful one. These days it's usually Windows telling me the firewall is disabled when it's perfectly fine.

Maybe I don't see useful alerts because the attacks never reach the computer with the firewall software in the first place. Maybe NAT-enabled routers were all most of us ever really needed.

If you thought the amount was disappointing before...

from here

Getting a measly $125 as compensation for a data breach that affected nearly half of the US may seem bad enough, but when you figure in that they only earmarked about $31 million for that payout (for 145 million people) then you start to realize that the math doesn't work out. Apparently people have started to realize that problem and now it seems that $125 is a pipe dream. Some have even suggested that the whole thing was a bait-and-switch scam.

Maybe we should just change our entire identities

from here

This could be for any breach, but right now there are dueling breaches of Marriott and Quora and I'm starting to wonder if breaches are accelerating.

Don't leave home without it

found on Miss Techy

Is a VPN right for you? If primary school kids are installing VPNs on their phones in order to get around website restrictions on their school's wifi, then maybe ask yourself why haven't you found a reason to use a VPN yet.

Could I Just Get His Bitcoin Wallet Instead?

from here (source image)

So now they've really found Satoshi Nakamoto? For real this time? No possibility of getting it wrong?

I won't hold my breath.

You Get SSL And You Get SSL And You Get SSL...

tweeted by Nick Sullivan

Thanks to Nick Sullivan for posting this Oprah You Get A Car meme referencing the fact that his company plans on providing SSL to all its customers for free (which is a pretty big deal since it makes it much easier for sites to encrypt their web traffic).
