Look at me, I'm the adblocker now

from here and here (source tweet)

If you're technical enough you might be able to save your expensive smart TV from the clutches of advertisers, but I tend to think it will be easier for most people to just download their TV shows from the Internet, and then what's the point of paying for a fancy smart TV? Viewers are going to take whatever path gives them the better user experience, and filling the top half of a navigation screen with ads is not a good user experience.

Unfortunately, that solution only works for smart TVs. It's not going to save you from ads on smart fridges or other smart devices. The Internet of Shit is rapidly becoming the Internet of Shitty Ad Players.

And the winner is Votey McVoteface

from here

There are so many things wrong with this story, not the least of which entrusting democracy to a company named Voatz. I can't imagine how anyone could remain under the delusion that mobile devices are secure enough for voting. It's questionable if they're even secure enough for making online purchases, never mind deciding who the next leader will be.

That's one heck of a 'bug'

from here (source article)

There's a lot of things going on in the description of this bug, and frankly, I wonder how much of it is actually unintended. The app is sending photos (or entire albums) to a contact chosen seemingly at random at a time when the phone isn't being used and no trace of the sent message is left behind. That seems like an awfully well hidden 'bug'.

It's certainly not unheard of for people in privileged positions to misuse their position for personal gain. I wonder if perhaps the only accidental part of this is how the recipient is selected.

So Much For Only Downloading From Legitimate Sources

from here (source image)

I don't know what Microsoft has been smoking but downloading updates from arbitrary computers on the Internet seems like a good way to get malware.

Using The Right Bait For The Wrong Reasons

from here (source image)

If you want to ingratiate yourself to a police officer, a gift of baked goods could actually be helpful in that pursuit. What's displayed above, however, is unlikely to end well, even if it is up here in Canada.

How Can A Search Warrant Unlock A Phone?

from here (source document)

Since technology can't read, much less authenticate search warrants, technology that can be unlocked with a search warrant must invariably also be able to be unlocked fraudulently by those without search warrants.

Design Fail

from here (source image)

Sure, why don't you wear a T-shirt that makes it look like you're carrying a gun that is physically impossible for you to drop when ordered to by police. What's the worst that could happen?
