What else haven't they told us about?

from here

So much for the 'Walled Garden' keeping Apple users safe. It failed spectacularly and allowed a 128 million device botnet to be created out of compromised iDevices. And worse, because of Apple's lack of transparency, we have no reason to believe something like this hasn't happened before or since.

So much for 'easy money'

from here and here

I have never heard of victims getting their bitcoins back, but apparently it may be a possibility in this one particular case and frankly my mind is blown. If this becomes widespread then using bitcoin for criminal purposes is going to get harder. And that's a good thing.

But the spam came back the very next day

found on Imgflip

Like the cat that came back, spam appears to be impossible to get rid of and it will drive you mad if you let it.

There's no such thing as too big to fail for databases

found on FRSecure

Not to long ago I tweeted:
That which is collected will eventually be breached
Large breaches like the one at Equifax prove this point in spades, but it really goes for anything. We can't stop all the breaches, so eventually one is going to succeed and the data we (whoever we happens to be) have collected will be released.

The best way to deal with this is to not collect sensitive data in the first place. The second best way is to not keep it for very long. The more data you have the bigger a deal such a breach becomes, so while some banks may be too big to fail it's actually the opposite that holds true for databases.

Don't tempt fate, or the Internet

from here

I kind of feel sorry for the site operator featured in this Ars article. He was clearly out of his depth. Now when you load the page there's nothing there. I suppose that's more secure, but it's not very useful.

Rest in peace SHA1

from here

So, even though it's probably not economical to attack a SHA1 based cryptocurrency at the moment (the cost of mounting an attack would likely exceed the amount of funds available in the few SHA1 based cryptocurrencies out there), the fact that SHA1 is now 'dead' will probably result in the value of those alt-coins dropping precipitously.
