Who the heck is in charge of the DoD's app store, and how did so-called "unapproved" apps get into it? I feel like if it's in the store that is implicit approval. Maybe the person responsible didn't have the authority to make that approval but then they probably shouldn't be in a position where they're able to do that - which brings us back to the question of who the heck is in charge.

Not everything needs to be made into a smart device, and arguably some things definitely shouldn't. App-enabled handguns seem like a terrible idea.

What features do you suppose the electronics in this handgun actually implement and what do you suppose the consequences are if the battery dies in the middle of operation, or if the function falls under the control of a malicious remote individual? I wouldn't count on good outcomes in either situation.

So much for the 'Walled Garden' keeping Apple users safe. It failed spectacularly and allowed a 128 million device botnet to be created out of compromised iDevices. And worse, because of Apple's lack of transparency, we have no reason to believe something like this hasn't happened before or since.

Don't look now, but a company that has been violating your privacy for decades has failed to keep their special one-time promise to protect your privacy with respect to COVID-19 (and didn't even take it seriously until reporters got involved).

We kinda should have seen this coming. It's not like they have a lot of experience protecting your privacy.

Trust is difficult to gain but easy to lose, so I have to wonder what LastPass was thinking when they stuffed their app full of trackers. Did they think no one would notice? Have they never heard the phrase "Trust But Verify"?

LastPass isn't my password manager of choice, but if it had been I'd be looking for a new one now.

I think we can all agree there's absolutely no reason a calculator would need access to manage phone calls. Either a legitimate app developer made a mistake in defining what permissions their app would require, or a malicious app developer made a mistake trying to hide this kind of functionality in a calculator. Which ever one it is, somebody fucked up.
