Some would say just use a VPN, but the VPN effectively takes on the role of your ISP at that point. So since all the traffic your ISP used to be able to see will now be visible to your VPN provider you need to find one that's worthy of the trust you'll be placing in them. There are generally more options available to you with VPNs than there are with ISPs, though, so it should be an easier problem to solve.

I mean, they can't give you privacy while you unlock the phone because you might delete important evidence, so can they force you to expose yourself or worse in order to collect evidence? I suppose we'll have to wait for the tech to test this question. 

I hope "rub" is sufficiently gender neutral that this idea can cover everyone.

That doesn't seem very anonymous

The concept of anonymous has gone through a lot of changes over the years. Back in the day there were anonymous remailers, which came about because it became obvious that you could track down the sender or more traditional messages. Then of course there was the Tor Project which was meant to facilitate anonymous browsing because otherwise your activity on a site could be tracked back to your ISP who would be more than willing to give you up. After that came the hacktivist group named Anonymous who presciently wore masks because they feared (and rightly so) being identified by authorities using (among other things) facial recognition. Face recognition is in the hands of everyone now, though, not just the authorities, so the idea of showing your face online and calling it anonymous because your name is withheld just doesn't work anymore.

Using a VPN can obscure where you're browsing from, while private browsing or incognito mode can make it more difficult to gather profiling information on you from cookies. Using them together would be even better, whether it's from browsing privates or protecting your privacy in other activities.

This is a pretty good example of a decoy. Imagine going that deep and finding nothing but Rick Astley - would you keep looking? I mean, sure, someone could do a search instead of just clicking on folders, but for those not smart enough to do that (like maybe your little brother/sister)  this may actually deter them from finding anything really private.

It's kind of weird how the contents of spam emails have changed over the years. I'm sure there's still some adult-themed spam, but it doesn't seem to be nearly as popular anymore.

It's not hard to find advice about only going to trustworthy news sites or trustworthy download sites, etc, but people seem a little bit skittish about applying the same logic to porn sites. I wonder why that is. Either the principle is sound and holds for all kinds of sites, porn included, or the principle is hogwash and porn sites are the proof of that.
