Jeepers creepers where'd you get those peepers

from here and here (image source)

If it weren't for the normalization of surveillance we wouldn't get amazingly disturbing images like this one.

The Philosophy of Zuck

from here and here (image source)

When your a rich tech entrepreneur like Mark Zuckerberg, a creepy surveillance-enabled portrait where the eyes literally follow you seems very on brand.

Eliminating the last vestiges of privacy

found on Izismile

I think I'll hold it. I'd rather not piss away my last shred of privacy, thank you very much.

OwO Surveillance

from here and here (image source)

It's bad enough knowing you're being watched. I think we can all do without the anthropomorphized machine judgements.

But who watches the Watcher Watchers?

from here and here (image source)

I think we know how that goes. It's surveillance cameras all the way down.

Let's review the tape

from here

Surveillance cameras are usually not hidden. Any thief worth their salt should be able to spot them and realize that they'd be captured on film (and later in person by police) if they tried steal from a business equipped with such cameras. Stealing from a business that MAKES them takes a special kind of stupid.

No correction necessary

from here and here (image source)

It's technically correct, which is the best kind of correct, and as an added bonus we all get to keep some privacy to boot so don't mess up a good thing.

Can't even protect itself

from here and here (image source)

I guess surveillance isn't magic after all. Those cameras are valuable, of course someone is going to think to steal them.

I wouldn't be smiling

found on Izismile

On the plus side, at least you get a warning and can look around for the camera and obscure it's view before you go. It would be worse if you didn't know about it.

They don't stop you from doing the thing, only from getting away with it

from here

It would be more accurate to call the surveillance cameras, but I think society has less tolerance for the concept of surveillance, even though it's going on all around us. Calling them security cameras seems like it's part of our surveillance denialism.

A loo with a view

found on Acid Cow

If you look really closely you'll see that not only will anyone using that bathroom be exposing themselves for anyone around to see, but there's also a sign indicating there are surveillance cameras that might just have a view into there as well.

You get what you pay for

Maybe if banks had budgets the size of the Mars Program they could afford better cameras.

Smile You're On Camera sticker

Product Page

The idea behind it is probably to warn people about YOUR cameras, but the thing is, even if you don't have a camera, no matter where you take it it's probably telling the truth.

Because they do

At least one of the eyes actually will follow you wherever you go.

I have a feeling surveillance cameras can be enchanted, so you better make sure they're uploading a live feed into the cloud

Insecurity camera

from here and here

Just another reason "security camera" is a bad name for them. They're surveillance cameras. They don't make your stuff more secure (even without the vulnerabilities), they just help see who the perpetrators are.

The turtle's got it's eye on you

found on eBaum's World

There isn't really any such thing as a security camera. Camera's don't make things more secure, they don't prevent unwanted outcomes, they simply help in catching people after the fact. The best they can hope to do as far as prevention is to serve as a deterrent, but for that to work they have to be plainly visible, not hidden in a mural. People are less likely to be deterred by a turtle looking at them than they are by an obvious camera looking at them.

Defense In Depth: Surveillance Edition

found on Dump A Day

A camera can miss things, that's why you often see more than one, but sometimes cameras can miss things even when they're in frame, so that's where the snitches come in.
