People can't steal something from you if you don't have it in the first place. That goes for money but it also goes for data - that's the logic behind the data minimization advice that online businesses are given (and that they frequently ignore)

The precautions I took are as follows:
- Carefully line up the card so that only the side edge can be seen and take a picture
- Turn it around and repeat step 1 for the other side
- Then put the card that wasn't even a credit card in the first place back where it belongs
In other words, just don't do it.
