Phishing Attack
Watch on YouTube
It's not usually viruses, per se, that are in modern phishing attacks. This might be a hold-over from a time when people used the term virus to mean any kind of malicious software. Thankfully people have figured out the proper term for that is must malware.

Uncanny Camouflage

I don't know about you but if I were actually there and someone appeared to just walk out of a vending machine like that I think it would creep me out.

I think we've probably all been this distracted before, but that's not something you want to see in a surveillance camera.

Threat models
![]() |
| found on GIF Trunk |
Whether this is good or bad really depends on your threat model. If you don't consider models a threat then their ability to bypass your security isn't a problem. On the other hand, if this is a model threat, then you've got problems.

Are you using the right tools to defend yourself?

People actually use the wrong tools quite often, though perhaps not to quite so hilarious an effect.

Thanks to Alex Girard for sending me this demonstration that even the youngest of us will find ways around mechanisms that get in our way.

CAPTCHA Fail
![]() |
| found on Imgur |
Thanks to Alex Girard for pointing me towards this animation of what appears to be perhaps the worst CAPTCHA I've ever seen. If the solution to the CAPTCHA is in the filename of the image then it's going to be spectacularly easy for bots to solve it and thus render it useless at stopping bots.

This Cage Can't Stop Me

A movable barrier isn't really much of a barrier at all. This dog can still get in trouble, he'll just take the cage with him.

Just Keep Hiding, Just Keep Hiding

There may not be any security in obscurity, but that doesn't mean obscuring things (or yourself) isn't an effective strategy, because it clearly can be one (as shown in this scene from Ocean Planet).

I mean really, who is that supposed to fool, the legally blind? Certainly not a literal or figurative big brother.

Take My Passwords, Please

This seems like the perfect keyboard for when you want to shoulder-sure someone and steal their passwords. Frankly, passwords are pretty much the only thing that don't show what you're typing right on the screen so I can't help but think this was actually intended for passwords.

Peek-a-boo Bathroom Doors?
![]() |

It's a very neat feature, but I'm not sure it's the best idea for a bathroom door (based on the filename). What happens when this very neat feature breaks down? Ooops!.

Cat Vs Alligator?

It's crazy enough seeing a cat scare off a bear, but a gator too? Who needs guard dogs when cats can do this?

If you ever wondered what biological defenses looked like, here’s an example. I wonder if we could apply analogous approaches to computer security threats.

I couldn't resist this one. What could they possibly have been thinking? He's basically holding up a bag of AIR to protect himself from a flying kick. How could that possibly work?

If you want to foil facial biometrics, you could go with this KISS approach or you could go with an approach more in keeping with the KISS principle and simply wear a hat and sunglasses.
